Ashland apartment fire displaces residents

Two people were displaced after a fire at an apartment complex on Main Street in Ashland left smoke and water damage.

The call for help came in on Monday at 12:18 p.m. The Ashland Fire Department responded with multiple agencies.

In a press release, Ashland Fire detailed its response: Multiple people were visually seen waving their hands for help from the second and third floor apartment.

First, a team went to the second floor and entered the apartment with the fire. No one was inside and the crew knocked down the flames. Then they searched each apartment for people and more fire. Pets and people were removed in the second wave of evacuations.

The AFD says no major injuries were reported. The building on 206 Main Street has smoke and water damage. Investigators don’t know what caused the fire but don’t believe it was malicious.

Xcel Energy is working to restore power to the building. The Salvation Army made sure the two people displaced had a temporary place to stay, along with clothing and food.

Fire Chief Stuart Matthias asked the public to make sure there is a working smoke detector on each floor of your home.
