Bent Paddle Brewing hosted a fundraiser to help support local farmers on Friday night. They partnered with the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association to host a raffle event to support efforts to educate the community on local farms and the importance of carrying on the tradition of sustainable growing. Guests were able to enjoy drinks by Bent Paddle, meet and greet local farmers, hear from guest speakers and even stay for live music after the fundraiser.
“The average age of farmers in this country is 57 and rising and the percent there’s less than 1% of our population that are farmers,” said Julie Allen, Chapter Coordinator for the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association. “So, all our food production is really concentrated into a very, very few hands in this country. And if we want to have a stable food supply and a resilient food supply for the future, we need a lot more farmers.” The Farming Association prides themselves on the work they do to advance environmental stewardship, economic resilience and strong, diverse communities through farmer-to-farmer networking, education, demonstration and research.
