The Bike. Build. Home 500 began on Wednesday. The bicycling event helps raise money for Habitat for Humanity and their efforts to offer affordable housing for those in need. Volunteers from North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity La Crosse and others in the community biked hundreds of miles through Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa to support the cause. The funds raised this year went towards supporting two families in Hibbing and three families in Eveleth. Officials from the event noted that they had already raised over $91,000 as of Wednesday evening.
Bike. Build. Home 500 was created to keep the traditions from the Habitat 500 bike ride alive. The original race was held by Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota. Over the past 30 years, cyclists and volunteers have raised over $7 million to build affordable homes. The Bike. Build. Home 500 committee includes past Habitat 500 riders, volunteers, and committee members.
