Biwabik man charged with trying to shoot father’s girlfriend
A Biwabik man has been charged with second-degree attempted murder and two other felonies for allegedly shooting at his father’s girlfriend.
According to a criminal complaint charging Landon Terrance Tuomala with attempted murder, second-degree assault, and intentional discharge of a dangerous weapon, the incident happened just before 7 p.m. on Aug. 26 in Aurora.
Officers were called to E 3rd Avenue S, where the caller could hear a woman screaming, “Call 911.” Tuomala himself also reportedly called 911 to report that he had just shot someone but was no longer armed.
When two officers got there and approached the driveway, they say Tuomala, 22, came out with his hands up.
The victim, who a couple witnesses brought to safety in their pickup truck, told police that when she got to the house, she went in the door and say Tuomala with a long gun pointed at her. The complaint says she ran outside, tripped and fell, and the bullet sailed over her. Authorities found a bullet hole in a neighboring home.
Tuomala was taken to the East Range Police Department, where he allegedly told officers that the victim is his dad’s girlfriend, and he shot at her with a 30-30. Authorities say they found a 30-30 rifle in the home with a spent shell casing in the chamber.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim and the defendant’s father lived at the house. They said Tuomala moved in there about a month prior after being “required to leave” two different treatment facilities.
Tuomala is due back in St. Louis County court on Monday morning.
