Blankets and messages of hope for cancer patients

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Upper Plains Region and Miller Hill Subaru teamed up to deliver warm gifts to cancer patients in Duluth’s local hospitals on Wednesday.

Teams from both organizations made stops at Aspirus St. Luke’s and the Essentia Health Cancer Center to drop off the blankets and give messages of hope to cancer patients and their families.

Tim Wilson, Operations Supervisor for Aspirus St. Luke’s Cancer Center, says he appreciates a local business helping to support the patients.

“We have patients diagnosed every day, and it’s great to see that they get supported and have some compassion to give to these patients.” Wilson said.

Hospitals can provide medicine, but these the blankets serve as comfort items that can also help patients heal.

“We are so grateful to Miller Hill Subaru for this generous contribution to the patient families of these two wonderful facilities that support blood cancer patients,” said Kortney Hamm, Upper Plains Region Executive Director. “With support from dedicated partners like Miller Hill Subaru, LLS is able to drive forward our mission to improve the quality of lives of patients and families affected by a blood cancer diagnosis by funding research, offering free support and resources and advocating for policies that provide access to better and more affordable cancer care.”

Subaru is the largest automotive donor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. By the end of 2024, Subaru of America says it will have supported nearly 350,000 cancer patients across the United States with both funding and blankets.

This is Miller Hill Subaru’s 9th year supporting the cause.
