Body of missing Marshall man found in BWCA
Cook County officials say a body was found near the Brule Lake on Monday, identified as a missing Marshall man.
Authorities were told the body was discovered by other canoeists in the BWCA area. First responders say it was 32-year-old Justin Sperl, who hadn’t been seen since August 10.
Sperl’s vehicle was located at the Brule Lake landing in Cook County on August 10. Law enforcement was able to make contact with him on August 11, who said he was fine and was only out canoeing.
“This is a terrible tragedy, and we extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Justin,” shared Sheriff Pat Eliasen in a statement.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is now investigating.
