Body of park ranger escorted by fellow law enforcement
A long line of law enforcement squads left the Northland on Monday, escorting the body of a fallen officer. Authorities released the name of the National Park Service Ranger who died Sunday in the Line of Duty in Voygageurs National Park.
Park officials say 55-year-old Park Ranger Kevin Grossheim of Kabetogama died on Sunday while answering a call of distress for a family of three.

St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay shared more about what happened after the death of a park ranger.
Law enforcement escorted his body from Voyageurs National Park down to Superior on Sunday, and then to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s office in the cities and back on Monday.
He did not know the ranger, but has learned about him from co-workers and family. “He had a servant’s heart. He was out there on a Sunday, helping a family. Going out in terrible conditions. It’s what he did, he helped people,” Ramsay shared.
Rep. Roger Skraba did not know the ranger personally either, but heard that he was 55-years-old and lived on Kabetogama.
“These are the people who go out and help people. It always hurts when it’s someone who cares as much as that person did,” Skraba said.
He’s been on the lakes like Namakan when the wind is up, and said the waves can be downright nasty.
The ranger died during a rescue of three people on Sunday. He’d been towing in a distressed vessel, when the National Park service boat capsized. The three members of the public were able to swim to safety.
