Boil Water Advisory lifted for Ely residents
Two days after the City of Ely shut off the water to the city following a water main break below the water tower, the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted for residents and businesses. An update was sent out from the Deputy Clerk’s office at approximately 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
According to the release, the Minnesota Department of Health took additional sampling of the water and the results confirmed no health concerns. City officials say water use can return to normal.
Once the water was restored, residents were told not to drink or cook with the water unless it was boiled first. This was needed because of a possible contamination due to loss of pressure. This requirement has now been lifted.
To remove air or water discoloration, city officials say you should flush your plumbing system by running each cold-water faucet for five minutes or until the water is noticeably colder.
Officials say the issue has been resolved, however if you experience any unusual symptoms that continue, you should seek medical advice. People at increased risk should talk to their health care provider.
