Bus involved in crash near Lowell Elementary, multiple non-life threatening injuries reported

Update: The Duluth Police Department released a statement Thursday afternoon saying the driver of the bus was issued a citation for failure to yield right-of-way.

Original Story: A school bus was involved in a car accident near Lowell Elementary Wednesday, afternoon around 3:15 p.m. on Rice Lake Road.

“Initial investigation shows the school bus was attempting to turn southbound on Rice Lake Road when a vehicle that was traveling north bound on Rice Lake Road struck the bus,” explained Mattie Hjelseth, the Duluth Police Department Public Information Officer.

The driver of the bus, an adult passenger, and a student passenger all received non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

According to the Duluth Police Department, there were no signs of impairments. The accident is under investigation and the crash will be reviewed from potential charges.
