Cal Warwas moving on to general election in Minnesota house district 7B race

For the last 80 years, a DFL lawmaker has held the Minnesota house district 7B post on the Iron Range. In Tuesday’s primary election two Republican candidates were hoping to change that.

DFL Representative Dave Lislegard is not running for a fourth term and Lorrie Janatopoulos is running unopposed as the DFL candidate. In Tuesday’s primary election, voters were choosing between two Republican candidates, Cal Warwas and Matt Matasich.

Unofficial results show Cal Warwas winning and heading to the general election in November.

When asked about how he stands out as a candidate Warwas said he’s a third generation steelworker and been mining for 28 years. Warwas says from working on the Iron Range, he knows how important the mining industry is to voters in the Northland.

“I’m a pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family guy, I’m endorsed by the NRA, and I’m endorsed by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association,” Warwas said. “I’m a pro-mining activist. I’ll do things to forward the mining industry. My life, my vibe, what I want to forward is what’s best for the Iron Range and opportunity for Rangers.”

If unofficial results hold, Warwas will be heading to the general election in November to take on DFLer, Lorrie Janatopoulos.
