One person airlifted to Duluth hospital following accident near Mt. Iron
First responders were called to the scene of a two vehicle accident near Mountain Iron on Tuesday. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, a report came in at 9:17 a.m. that a small passenger car had struck a commercial vehicle at the intersection of Wolf Road and County Hwy 101, in rural Mt. Iron.
It was reported that the driver of the car was stuck inside the vehicle and needed to be extricated. The driver was airlifted by North Memorial Air Service to Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth with serious injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The name of the driver is being withheld, pending notification of family.
The Mountain Iron Fire Department and the Virginia Fire and Ambulance Service responded to the scene, along with law enforcement from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, the Eveleth Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
