Celebration planned for new pickleball courts in Hibbing

New pickleball courts open up in Hibbing

Pickleball popularity continues to grow, so new courts in Hibbing are a welcome addition.

Pickleball remains the fastest growing sport in America. And Hibbing now has dedicated courts.

They opened up in Bennett Park. The $380,000 project is a combination of private and public funding and efforts.

The Central Range Pickleball Club became an official non-profit in 2022, and worked hard to get this project going.

“They are modeled after the courts in Grand Rapids. Everyone is ecstatic to finally have a place to play,” shared Tom Jamar, a board member of the club.

Another board member, Ed LaTendresse, added, “We want people to feel comfortable, especially if they haven’t played before, to come and try it out.”

Before, players had been using the tennis courts at Lincoln Elementary. Parking was an issue, as was competition with tennis time.

There’s a ribbon cutting event on Wednesday at 3:30pm.

They are located at 503 E 16th Street.
