Cheerio Challenge is back for a second year

(WDIO)
Remember the Duluth Cheerio Challenge? Well, it’s coming back.
In 2024, Duluthians took something negative said about what they do with Cheerios and made it into a positive. In just three days, people from Duluth and beyond gave more than 800 boxes of cereal and raised over $50,000 to go to CHUM, the Union Gospel Mission, the Damiano Center, and the Salvation Army.
Cheerio Challenge Organizer Chad McKenna admitted, “Now, if we are being completely honest, Duluth rallied around this effort with a little snark, but mostly out of genuine sense of community pride. We wanted to show that we are a community that rises to the occasion, supports one another, that we do big things and we have big hearts.”
“I think we can do that again this year – with just the needs of our community and neighbors motivating us. Maybe it won’t be quite as successful as it was last year, maybe we won’t get as much attention, we’ll see.”
Bring a box of Cheerios or other non perishable food items to the Duluth Labor Temple on March 24-28 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
This time, the organizers are throwing in an incentive. Anyone who donates at least one non perishable food item and $25 gets a Duluth Cheerio Challenge t-shirt.
The food drive coincides with Minnesota FoodShare Month.
