Chum’s Expansion Extravaganza brings more needed donations

Chum's Expansion Extravaganza fundraiser is bringing sorely needed donations from the Twin Ports to help expand their homeless shelter.

On February 27th, Chum’s Expansion Extravaganza, brought the Twin Ports community together for a festive fundraiser. The Mardi Gras inspired event was both a celebration and an opportunity for people to give charitable donations.

The funds raised during the event will provide critical operating support for Chum’s shelter expansion. John Cole, Chum’s Executive Director says these contributions will ensure more individuals have access to safe shelter and vital resources.

“We are the region’s largest social safety net providing assistance to anyone in need especially those who are homeless and so it’s good that the community can come out and celebrate with us and to support us financially.”

Even small donations can help Chum maintain their current operations. Cole says if people even give $65 it can help provide an entire month of chum services.

“The expansion is now $12 million. We started off at $10 million, but inflation has hit us. We are calling on the community, even more now than ever before to help us to build this brand new structure. Renovate the existing ones, so we can have more space and more programming.”

This festive fundraiser will feature delicious food, lively entertainment, and meaningful connections with
community members who share a passion for helping those experiencing homelessness.

If you were unable to attend, you can still be part of the impact. Chum is asking people to consider making a donation to help expand their shelter to serve even more people in need. Every contribution, big or small, helps ensure no one is left without a safe place to stay.
