Cloquet Area Fire District hoping to break ground on a new facility this year
The Cloquet Area Fire District has outgrown their current fire hall. And they’ve been planning for a decade for a new spot.
It would be at 22nd Street and Cloquet Avenue, near Sappi, on donated land.
Chief Jesse Buhs said, “Our biggest challenge is space, we are out of space. Largely due to the increase in call volumes and the response to the call volume. And additional specialized rescue equipment we’ve purchased over the years.”
The hope is to secure bonding money this session for the project, and then break ground in August.
One of their main focuses right now is recruitment and retention, and having a facility that has room for wellness and health is important.
Their current hall was built in 1960, with a major remodel in 1990.
There will be chances to weigh in.
