On Saturday, community members gathered together for the ninth year in a row for a walk to support Sheila St Clair’s loved ones and raise awareness for missing murdered indigenous relatives.

The Cascade Apartments in Duluth is the last place Sheila was seen before her disappearance in 2015. 9 years later, Sheila has yet to come home.

“All we want to do is bring her home, it’s time for her to come home now,” said Indian St Clair, Sheila’s sister.

Since Sheila’s disappearance, her loved ones have been seeking answers and continues to hold out hope that they will receive them.

“Know that the search continues, and we will not stop until we find Sheila, or we find answers,” said Rene Ann Goodrich, founder of the Native Lives Matter Coalition.

The remembrance walk took poster-clad supporters to Sheila’s last known location, where they performed ceremonial music and left a candle in memory.

“Unfortunately, we have a crisis. The crisis needs to be addressed. The family of Sheila St. Clair has come forward asking for assistance and that was a lot of what our family does, anything that the family would need and support of. So, awareness is key,” said Tawny Smith Savage, Violence prevention coordinator for Minnesota Missing Murdered Indigenous Relatives.

“The native community is small. So, what affects one of us affects many of us. Even though you might not know somebody personally, you probably know somebody from their family,” said Shawn Carr, event organizer.
