Community members gather to remember Lovebug the dog
Twin Ports community members gathered at the AAD Shrine center in Hermantown on Wednesday evening to remember a dog that made quite the impact in our community.
Lovebug was a Pitbull who was found starving in a ditch last November. A passerby picked him up and brought him to a local shelter. Despite their efforts, staff were unable to save Lovebug and he died nearly 24 hours after being rescued.
Lovebugs tragic story resonated with many people in the Northland who ultimately ended up hosting several fundraising events and raise over $14,000 for Animal Allies. Wednesday’s event served as a memorial for love bug, hosted by Animal Allies and other organizations. Guests at the memorial were able to speak to local law enforcement and humane society advocates about the importance of animal abuse awareness. Attendees also learned about efforts to help shelter pets in our community through fostering and donations. Animal Allies also set up a legacy fund in honor of Lovebug to help support other animals in the Twins Ports community.
According to staff at the event, felony charges are still pending in Lovebug’s case.
