Denfeld High School lifts SECURE protocol
The Duluth Police Department responded to a report of a person with a weapon on the 4600 block of Grand Avenue Wednesday morning, September 11 according to Public Information Officer Mattie Hjelseth. As a result, Denfeld High School activated its SECURE protocol.
“Upon further investigation into this incident, the call was changed to a disturbance and the SECURE protocol has been lifted,” said Hjelseth.
The protocol was in place for 13 minutes as per Duluth Public Schools Communications Officer Adelle Wellens.
As per school policy, “The SECURE action is used when there is a threat or hazard outside of the building. Whether it is due to violence or criminal activity in the immediate neighborhood, or a dangerous animal on the playground. Secure uses the security of the physical facility to act as protection. This action allows business to continue within the school building. People will not be allowed in or out of the building without permission from the Principal or their designee.”
