DFL Convention ends with delegates making a plan for November

DFL Convention up in Duluth at the DECC wraps ups this weekend with delegates making plans to re-elect Sen. Klobuchar in November.

The DFL Convention wrapped up this weekend in Duluth at the DECC. State delegates are making plans to re-elect Sen. Klobuchar in November and pivot their focus to the election.

Darwin Forsyth, the communications director with the DFL, says the delegates at the convention also talked about how to mobilize Minnesota voters.

“So the most important business that happens in any convention is picking your party’s endorsed candidate to lead the ticket in November. We overwhelmingly endorsed our senator Amy Klobuchar for re-election,” Forsyth said. “She’s a fantastic senator with a long record of bipartisan results. In everything from veterans benefits to lower drug prices for seniors. We couldn’t have a better candidate to lead our entire ticket into the fall.”

Forsyth says the DFL also voted on which delegates are attending the DNC. Although there’s still plenty of work ahead this election season.

“We’re proud of passing paid leave, nation’s strongest child tax credit, and free school lunch meals for all our public school children. We’re going to run on that record, and highlight how Republicans’ priorities are trying to ban abortion, cut taxes for the wealthy,” Forsyth said. “We think that’s going to be a contrast that’s going to play well in November.”

WDIO News did reach out to the Minnesota Congressional District 8 Republicans for comments on their plans this election season. However, they have not responded at this time.

“Republicans have a competitive, divisive primary between their endorsed candidate with a troubled personal history and a challenger. Same thing down the ballot with Angie Craig down in southern Minnesota facing strongly endorsed free election, similarly divided primary on their side. We feel very good about emerging united behind our candidates compared to the Republicans.”
