Duluth garden flower society 2023 plant sale event

One community organization that has been brightening up Duluthians’ days with their flowers for over twenty-six years is the Duluth Garden Flower Society (DGFS).

On Saturday 27th of May 2023, the organization held its plant sale event at Duluth Rose Garden parking lot.

The event featured over twenty garden clubs and great varieties of plants that are meant to thrive in the twin ports and the surrounding areas.

The event also acts as a fundraiser as all proceeds go to helping neighborhood garden clubs beautify the city of Duluth.

We spoke to the Duluth Garden Flower Society president Taire Suliin, on the primary mission of the event.

“We have 30 different gardens around Duluth that we maintain as volunteers. We dig up stuff from our own personal gardens, and we sell them here to other people so that we can get some money to put new stuff in our gardens. By doing that, we kind of make sure that all these native plants are grown here in the soil that we’re used to, that they’re guaranteed to grow and bring smiles to all the faces.”

She also said their customers usually get what they come searching for because they understand their needs.

“They want stuff that they know is proven to grow here. They want stuff that has already sprouted so they aren’t doing any of the sprouting themselves. We have a lot of that so, they can go home on a glorious day like today dig a hole and put it right in there.”>

DGFS also provides educational services for the community in order to make sure everyone as a successful growing season.
