Duluth kids are staying fit down at the St. Louis County Depot

Duluth kids were staying fit down at the St. Louis County Depot thanks to the Young Athletes Foundation's Let's Move event.

During these cold winter months it can be a challenge trying to get out and exercise, but it’s not impossible. Duluth kids were getting exercise and staying healthy at the St. Louis County Depot. The Depot along with the Young Athletes Foundation and Grandma’s Marathon collaborated for the 3rd annual Let’s Move event.

Alivia Nelson, the Program Director with Grandma’s Marathon said it’s a fun, free, fitness day for the whole family.

“Families are always looking to get outside, especially in the winter, and let their kids burn off some energy. The Young Athletes Foundation has some different running activities for kids, and there’s different healthy snacks,” Nelson said. “It’s exciting that they get to try out different activities and meet with organizations in the community.”

Duluth kids could also meet with several local sports teams like Duluth East soccer, Denfeld football, and the Duluth huskies. The idea of Let’s Move is to help kids develop good exercise habits and staying healthy.

“The Young Athletes Foundation has always had a goal of getting kids and families out and instilling fitness from a young age. We always want to do that in a year round capacity. It’s kind of tricky sometimes to think of things to do in the winter,” Nelson said. “There’s lots of different activities and organizations in Duluth that are dedicated to making that happen.”

There’s still time to register for the Young Athletes Foundation’s races coming up in March and April. Here’s the details on registering for upcoming races like the St. Fennessy 4k and the Fitgers 5k.
