Duluth man sentenced in death of 3-year-old
Jordan William Carter of Duluth has been sentenced in the September 2020 death of 3-year-old Cameron Gordon. Cameron Gordon was the son of Carter’s then-fiancé son. Judge Theresa Neo sentenced Carter on Friday to 180 months, or 15 years in prison.
Carter was found guilty of Second-Degree Murder on February 21, 2023. He had waived his right to a trial by jury, opting for a trial by the Court.
In September 2020, Carter had said the boy was injured when he fell down the stairs at home. Cameron’s death was ruled a homicide.
St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki said in a release on Friday, “The conviction in this case resulted from a collaborative effort between the Duluth Police Department, Essentia Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Health East, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. Thank you to every officer, investigator, and doctor who cared for Cameron during this chaotic and emotional time. Our deepest sympathies go out to Cameron’s family.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant County Attorney Vicky Wanta.
