Duluth Public Library kicks off National Library Week at the Great Lakes Aquarium
On Sunday, the Duluth Public Library celebrated the start of National Library Week at the Great Lakes Aquarium.
“National Library Week is a national celebration of public libraries, recognizing all the amazing things that they do for our community by providing free resources, free programs, events, and other support services,” said Erin Kreeger, executive director of the Duluth Library Foundation.
The Duluth Library Foundation chose to kick off National Library Week at the aquarium to connect with their youngest community members.
“Libraries are great for instilling really important lifelong learning skills in children. So, partnering with the Aquarium and introducing the community to things that the library does to support lifelong learning, like story times, grants access to books and materials to really support those skills that help children grow and be successful in school,” said Kreeger.
Supporting your local libraries can keep them around for future generations.
“I think this is an excellent time to be reminded that let’s support our libraries if we want to have them around. And I know I seriously count on them in my little town by the Canadian border and coming to Duluth by accessing a larger library system. So, yes, let’s keep our libraries supported and around forever,” said Mary Casanova.
Being an active user of the library system can be one of the easiest ways to show support.
“Making sure you’ve got a library card, attending an event or program, checking out materials, that signals to our elected officials and policy leaders that libraries are important and they’re great assets to our community,” said Kreeger.
The Duluth Library Foundation will continue to host events throughout National Library Week to keep the support for the Duluth Public Library going.
