Duluth second graders hold hot cocoa stand for school destroyed in California fire

Duluth second graders along with their families and friends braved the freezing temperatures to stop by the Hartley Nature Center for a cup of hot cocoa for a good cause on Monday January 20th.

The second graders sold hot cocoa for $2 a cup, sending all proceeds to the rebuilding of the Village Playgarden, a farm and outdoor school in Altadena California that was devastated by the Eaton Fire.

They originally wanted to hold a lemonade stand but it was just too cold for that.

“I decided that I wanted to make some money to raise for a school in California that was burned down,” said second grader Amy Ray. “I wanted a lemonade stand except it’s too cold for lemonade, so I decided a hot chocolate stand instead.”

Though they couldn’t agree is spending time with friends or the hot chocolate was the best part they all agreed that it felt great to be helping others.

“It feels great helping people,” said Amy Ray and her friends. “It feels really great. Good. Awesome. I think we all agree about that.”
