Duluth structure fire claims garage

UPDATE 2/23/2025 9:05 p.m. The pickup truck that burned in the fire reignited the following night. DFD crews were able to extinguish it again without the fire spreading to any structures.
Crews from multiple Duluth Fire Department stations responded to multiple calls of a structure fire on the 7800 block of Congdon Boulevard on the morning of February 22.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a garage fully engulfed, and a nearby pickup truck on fire as well. Calls for water tender trucks were made as DFD says the area has limited hydrants.
According to the report, the garage contained “multiple flammable gas cylinders”, and a power line from the house had burned off, increasing hazards at the scene.
Crews worked to battle the flames, which were made more difficult due to a the pickup truck’s fuel tank spilling gasoline.
After the fire was extinguished, the garage and truck were declared a total loss. Damage to another nearby vehicle, as well as the house are said to be minor. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze is now under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshall’s office.
Duluth Fire Department was assisted by the Saint Louis County Dispatch, Duluth Police Department, Rice Lake and Lakewood Fire Departments, Minnesota Power and Duluth Public Works during the emergency.
