Duluth will look for other sources of funding after there’s no bonding bill this session

When the legislative session came to a close, lawmakers had not passed a bonding bill.

Duluth had hoped to secure funding for the aerial lift bridge, WLSSD, and a seawall project by Pier B.

Now they’ll have to look for other sources.

Mayor Roger Reinert shared more. “We’re going to work hard now with our federal delegation, for maybe some directed congressional spending. We all pay for it. It shows up in our tax bills or rate increases. We’ll also look at other grants and sources of money.”

Reinert said it’s not an emergency for these projects, but they are pressing needs. They’ll also ask for bonding money again.

The legislature did pass a $2.6 billion dollar bonding bill in 2023.
