Duluth Workforce Development offers free Human Services course
Duluth Workforce Development is offering a new, no cost, one-semester training course with an Introduction to Human Services. This college course is offered in response to the critical need for trained Human Services staff. These services range from mental health, addiction treatment, but also other human services in the Duluth community.
Course participants will earn college credit through Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. This credit can be applied toward a two-year Human Services degree. Participants also receive additional academic support and job placement assistance.
The course will feature tours and presentations from many local social services employers. Some of these organizations are CHUM, Life House, Safe Haven, Northwood Children’s Services, and Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment.
Also the course offered by Duluth Workforce Development is in partnership with SOAR Career Solutions, True North Goodwill, Duluth Adult Education, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, and the State of Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development.
Course topics will include professional ethics, client assessment, case management, in addition to career planning. Participants will work with a job counselor to take the skills they learned in class and then find meaningful employment to start their career in human services.
Classes will be held at Duluth Adult Education in downtown Duluth. Classes are scheduled to run
September 23 through December 5, 2024. No prior educational or professional experience is needed
to take the class. Eligibility criteria does apply.
