Ecolibrium3’s Lincoln Park Grocery Store set to open this summer
An exciting development in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Residents will be able to shop for groceries closer to home. Ecolibrium3’s Lincoln Park Grocery Store will be opening later this year. The non-profit is currently renovating their former location on West Superior street, to become a grocery store.
Jodi Slick the CEO, says this will be a significant improvement for the people who struggle trying to find fresh, healthy food.
“Less than half of the residents in the lower portion of the neighborhood have access to a vehicle to get to a grocery store. We also have kind of a high level of disability and poverty,” Slick said. “So, making sure that our residents are able to shop in a full-service grocery and not just at a gas station is important for their health.”
Lincoln Park has been in need of a grocery store for some time, it was even declared a food desert. Ecolibrium3 in partnership with other organizations are working on providing fresh, healthy affordable food to the community.
Adam Kurowski, Ecolibrium3’s Community Projects Manager says they are already determining what fruits and vegetables will be sold.
“I think the fun part is really coming up with the food inventory. We’re working hard to come to learn from the community what they might want to be purchasing here. We’re aiming to provide staple groceries so that folks can come and do an entire week’s worth of shopping here.”
