Eight-year-old child struck by vehicle in Ely

An 8-year-old child was hit by a car at the intersection of Sheridan Street and Central Avenue in the City of Ely at 8am Thursday July 25th.

When the Ely Police department, the Ely Area Ambulance Service and First Responders arrived on the scene the child was conscious and able to get up and walk.

During the investigation it was determined that the driver of a Ram pickup had hit the child who was crossing Central Avenue within the crosswalk. The 8-year-old child was dragged by the vehicle around 25 to 30 feet from the crosswalk.

The child was transported to the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital who were able to stabilize the patient to be transported to a higher level of care.

The child is currently in stable condition and being held overnight for observation.
