A welcome sign of change at the port. Elevator A loaded up its first saltie in nearly a decade.
The Royal Wagenborg vessel named Maxima arrived around 7:00 a.m. on Monday.
She’s loading about 12,300 short tons of beet pulp pellets, which will head to the Netherlands.
Omaha-based Hansen-Mueller Company operates the grain elevator. They purchased it from General Mills.
It had been inactive since 2015. Now, Hansen-Mueller plans on importing and exporting small grains grown in the U.S. and Canada to domestic and foreign destinations.
This added new jobs to the working waterfront, and will increase grain tonnage, according to port leaders.
