Ely boil water advisory currently in effect

The city of Ely has put out an advisory to not drink the water unless it is boiled first or comes for an alternative safe source. This is from a possible contamination due to loss of pressure.

Ely Police Department advises to bring all water to a boil or use bottled water until further notice. Boiling helps kill bacteria and other organism in the water. And once the system has been restored and the advisory lifted, they recommend consumers to flush their building’s plumbing system.

On September 10th, 2024, there was a Water Main Break below the Water Tower, and the water was shut off to the town. This caused an increase chance that the drinking water may be contaminated. They are taking steps to correct the problem via flushing hydrants and taking samples of the water.

Boiling Water

Bring all water to a full, rolling boil, let it boil for one minute or longer, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice is given.

Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing bacteria to enter the consumers of the contaminated water. These bacteria, viruses, and parasites can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.

If any symptoms are present and persistent, it is recommended to seek medical advice. Keep attention to the City of Ely for updates on the advisory.
