Encampments removed from Priley Circle, two arrested

The City of Duluth's Life Safety Team and members of the Duluth Police Department assisted in the removal of remaining encampments at Priley Circle in Duluth on Wednesday morning.

The City of Duluth’s Life Safety Team and members of the Duluth Police Department assisted in the removal of remaining encampments at Priley Circle in Duluth on Wednesday morning, August 7. Two individuals were arrested at the time pending charges of obstruction.

Officials cited ongoing public health and safety concerns for the removal.

“Members of the Life Safety Team and DPD will continue to coordinate with community outreach partners to assist those in need,” explained Mattie Hjelseth, Duluth Police Department Public Information Officer. “The City appreciates the assistance of Human Development Center’s Community Crisis Response Team, Downtown Duluth Outreach, DPD’s Behavioral Health Unit, and St. Louis County.”

Part of Priley Circle will remain closed for a yet to be determined period of time for maintenance and restoration work.

Individuals camped at Priley Circle were given a seven-day notice to vacate the grounds on July 30.
