Essentia Health is planning an expansion and improvement of the Emergency Department in Virginia.
The hospital system plans to spend $13 million to add five exam rooms and invest in new technology and better security. Four of the five new rooms will be for behavioral health patients who are experiencing mental health episodes.
“By increasing our capacity and introducing a dedicated behavioral health suite, we are ensuring that every patient receives timely and specialized care,” Essentia Health-Virginia Administrator Sam Stone said.
Construction is expected to start later this year and finish in late 2026.
Funding came from Essentia Health, the hospital’s regional foundation, the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, and donors.
