Fatal fire in Ely claims life of one person and two dogs

One person and two dogs were killed in a fatal fire in Ely late Tuesday evening according to the Northland Fire Wire. The fire was reported shortly after 11:00 p.m. on April 1 at the 200 block of North 5th Avenue East.
Ely Fire Chief Dave Marshal told the Fire Wire that the fire appears to have started in the basement.
The Minnesota Fire Mashal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Fire crews from Ely, Babbitt, and Morse-Fall Lake and the Ely Police Department and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
