Fatal rollover accident in Sawyer County
The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office reports that one person was killed and multiple people have been injured as the result of a single vehicle rollover in Bass Lake, Wisconsin in Sawyer County around 3:16 a.m. on June 21. The crash was located on Highline Road south of the intersection of Williams Road.
The Sheriff’s Office initial investigation indicates that a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac was traveling north on Highline Road at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn multiple times and come to a rest in the east ditch line of the northbound lane.
Passenger Reese J. Frederick, 19, of Hayward, Wisconsin received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old female and a 16-year-old female were both ejected from the vehicle and were transported to a Minnesota hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The 20-year-old driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital.
He is being held at the Sawyer County Jail pending the charge of Second Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
Authorities state that speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, the Sawyer County Medical Examiner and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
