Fatal snowmobile accident near Grand Rapids

One person was killed in a snowmobile accident Thursday.

The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Driftskipper/Blandin Snowmobile Trail south of Grand Rapids. Initial reports said the snowmobile driver was rounding a corner and crashed into an oncoming groomer. The driver was pinned under the groomer, which was stuck and unable to move.

The man driving the snowmobile died at the scene. His name is being withheld until family is notified.
