FDLTCC students are raising funds for a Spring Pow Wow

Fond du Lac Tribal Community College (FDLTCC) students held a taco in bag and Elote in a cup fundraiser to support the annual Spring Pow Wow.

The Fond du Lac Tribal Community College (FDLTCC) students are raising funds for a Spring Pow Wow celebration. On Wednesday March 8th, the Anishinaabe student council hosted a Taco in a Bag and Elote in a Cup Fundraiser. Several FDLTCC students want to invite the community to experience local indigenous culture in the Cloquet area.

Jakob Wilson a member of the the Anishinaabe student council says the annual Pow Wow will feature beautiful dancing and singing.

“It’s not every day a powwow is up in your neck of the woods. It’ll be nice to come and check it out,” Wilson said. “Come check out something new. Come get a taste of our culture that’s just native to this area. Everybody is welcome at the powwow.”

Other FDLTCC students Abby Zapata and Lilian Peterson say the annual Spring Pow Wow is a time to not worry about other pressures in college.

“It started back up after COVID, obviously, because of the pandemic. We’re just raising extra money, for the general fun that we have for the Pow Wow,” Zapata said. “There’s a lot of singing, drumming, dancing. People just come sometimes to eat, just to have fun and dance,” Peterson added.

Also the FDLTCC Anishinaabe student council will host another fundraiser on Tuesday March 18th at noon. They will be selling chili, wild rice, corn bread to help support the annual celebration.
