Fifth grader gets grant for ‘Happy Cart’
Amelia Hanson, a fifth grader at North Star Academy, has been running a Happy Cart for three years. She uses it to give back to teachers and staff with treats, drinks, and joy.
And now a $1,000 ‘Youth in Philanthropy’ grant will help her spread the love further, adding a second cart.
Her teacher had given everyone in her class a dollar and encouraged them to do something compassionate with it. This inspired her to start collecting donations.
The first year, Amelia raised $500. The next year $400. This year- the money she’s raised combined with the grant total to over $1,100.
“I’m doing it for the teachers because I think they deserve it, they work a lot, and they do everything to make school fun,” Amelia told WDIO.
