Repairs begin on Five-Mile Bridge following collapse

Update: The Canadian National Railway has provided WDIO a statement regarding the collapse of the Five-Mile Bridge on August 14.

“CN crews have begun repairs on a railway bridge following an incident northeast of Fort Frances, ON. No trains were involved in the incident and there are no reports of injuries,” said Ashley Michnowksi, Media Relations with CN. “The bridge remains closed until further notice. Environmental crews have contained and are recovering a release of biodegradable, non-toxic hydraulic oil related to the incident. CN wishes to thank local first responders for their assistance.”

Original Story: The Five-Mile Bridge near Fort Frances, Ontario collapsed early on August 14. The bridge also known as the Rainy River Rail Lift Bridge.

According to the Town of Fort Frances Emergency Control Group, no injuries were reported and no train was involved in the collapse. The Canadian National Railway (CN) and OPP responded to the scene and Public Works provided safety assistance.

As per CN, the cause of the collapse is currently under investigation.
