Former Koochiching and Itasca County court administrator faces felony charges

Court documents state that Heather Porterfield, the former court administrator for Itasca and Koochiching County, is now facing felony charges of theft.
According to the criminal complaint, Heather Porterfield managed the Nashwauk-Keewatin band’s fundraising account. Suspicions came to light back in October about multiple ATM transactions made with the account over several years.
The criminal complaint also alleges an investigator was given text messages in which Porterfield admitted to mistaking the band account for her personal account.
Before the charges Porterfield had worked for the court system for over 20 years.
