Freshman Fall onto Campus

University of Minnesota Duluth is welcoming about 2,000 new students to campus over the next two days. This week is welcome week for the new bulldogs on campus. The campus has a variety of activities for the new freshman to take part in this week including: The Bulldog Bash, a carnival-style event where new students and their families get introduced to campus life at UMD. The “Just for Parents” event, where UMD Faculty and Staff who have parented college students come for an informative session. In addition, there is also a game of Kickball and Capture the Flag for new students to enjoy.
The University of Minnesota Duluth integrates liberal education, research, creative activity, and public engagement and prepares students to thrive as lifelong learners and globally engaged citizens. The total number of teaching faculty is 566. Among the faculty, 46% are women, 19% are people of color and 4% are international.
Many see UMD as an alternative to both large research universities and small liberal arts colleges. Undergraduate students can choose from 16 bachelor degrees in 89 majors and 77 minors. UMD consistently ranks among the top Midwestern, regional universities in the ‘U.S.A. and World Report’ “America’s Best Colleges Issue.” Welcome week spans from August 24th-28th with classes beginning the following week.
