Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve holds annual member meeting

The Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve held their annual member meeting Tuesday night on Barker’s Island. The event featured guest speaker Ariel Bonkoski, who discussed edible wild mushrooms found around Lake Superior. “I like foraging because I really value knowing where my food comes from. It gives me a unique relationship with the earth,” says Bonkoski. The meeting also served as a place to highlight the contributions and achievements made by members throughout the year.

The Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve supports the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve year-round. They raise awareness about the estuary, organize public events such as beach cleanups and recruit volunteers.
