Glimpse into a few local businesses from the Duluth Sport Show
The Duluth Sport Show filled the DECC this weekend as the community flooded into the combination of the Duluth Boat, Sports, Travel & RV Show + the Northland Outdoors Duluth Deer Classic all wrapped up into one mega sports event.
Inside there was almost 300 exhibitions and booths to check out. Here are a few local businesses from Minnesota that have been a part of the Duluth Sport Show for a while that may have got left under the radar.
Some groups have been a part of this event for years and years. And one such group has been Hunter Creek Alpaca Farm. A couple of a now-retired alpaca farm has been keeping the community warm with hand crafted outer gear. Muriel Wallace, is the skilled crocheter who makes all her products out of alpaca fur.
What started as a passion project and a small store by their farm, has grown into a full booth at the sport show. Since 2010, Muriel has seen people flock to her crafts as she tried new shapes, new styles of hats each year. Muriel made note that her animal style hats were a big-ticket item while she has also found recent success in the fingerless gloves, among fishers.
Muriel said she enjoyed the shows for the community that gathers around them. “Well, coming to these shows, you meet so many people, interesting people. I get new ideas from them,” she said. “So, it’s fun seeing and learning about different people and whatever they’re doing too”
Another business that we spoke to was Sideshow Bloody Mary. A family owned and operated company out of Jorden, Minnesota. The business began in 2015 and has been a part of the Sport Show for the last five years. Sideshow’s focus is on a variety of different Bloody Mary’s and Olives.
Each business and company at a booth, finds a niche they support and come back each year trying to give back to the community. Be it a new hat design or a new flavor of Bloody Mary Mix.
