goMARTI celebrates 10,000 riders in Grand Rapids, looks to expand the routes

goMARTI service hits 10,000 in Grand Rapids area

A look at how the goMARTI service in Grand Rapids is going.

A milestone for the goMARTI service in Grand Rapids. They’ve hit the 10,000 rider mark.

It’s been in place since September 2022. May Mobility is the autonomous driving technology company that deployed the vehicle.

Site manager Jon Dege shared, “This was the first rural deployment for any autonomous vehicle program. And getting results of over 10,000 riders feels really great for us.”

He said they’re also proud to have made it through the snowiest winter, back in 2022-2023.

They’ve gotten another federal grant, so the free rides will continue for at least another three years.

Dege said they are adding stops at Walmart, the food bank, and the college.

Of the 10,000 riders, 91% are repeat customers. 8% are wheelchair accessible vehicle requests.

There are many partners who support this project.
