GOP Senate hopeful stops in Superior
Wisconsin GOP Senate Candidate Eric Hovde made a campaign stop in Superior Wednesday afternoon, July 10, speak with voters at a local restaurant.
The visit was part of what Hovde calls his “Restore the American Dream tour” a cross-state RV trip which he says he uses to share his views with voters, and discuss plans his future plans should he win the election in November.
When asked about what he hopes to accomplish if elected, Hovde spoke about combating the rising cost of living, as well as tackling health care issues.
“We have to get control of these crazy prices for our food, our insurance. We have to make housing more affordable. We have to address the access to health care. Health care accessibility has gone down while the costs have gone up.” Hovde said.
Hovde is hoping to unseat incumbent, two-term Democrat Tammy Baldwin this November. In his remarks, Hovde strongly criticized Baldwin, calling her “one of the most extreme liberals in the U.S. senate” and said that she will not debate him.
In response to Hovde’s campaign stop in Superior, WDIO reached out Senator Baldwin’s office for comment, and received the following statement from Arik Wolk, a spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
“Eric Hovde has called farmers lazy, said seniors shouldn’t be allowed to vote, and said that single parents put their kids on a ‘direct path to poverty.’ He insults Wisconsinites every time he opens his mouth. Let’s just hope he doesn’t skip out on Wisconsin for his private beach in California like he did the last time he was supposed to hit the campaign trail.” Wolk said.
Wisconsinites will choose between Hovde and Baldwin in the general election, November 5.
