Grand opening of Gordon Station, selling plenty of ice cream this summer

What better way to enjoy the first day of summer than the grand opening of Gordon Station, selling plenty of ice cream to everyone?

What better way to enjoy the first day of summer than eating ice cream? Over in the town of Gordon, Wisconsin, people traveling down Highway 53 saw the grand opening of Gordon Station.

Julie Phelps, the owner of Gordon Station said she and other residents in the town are excited for more tourism this summer.

“It was a steady stream when the door opened and I was amazed and overwhelmed. But it was great, overwhelming,” Phelps said. “It’s so great to save this whole building. I get to enjoy it and the town will get to enjoy it when I’m gone, someone else will get to enjoy it.”

The building of Gordon Station has a unique history, it first began as a gas station back in the 1930’s. Gordon Station is a prefabricated building and is the last of remaining structure of its kind still standing. Phelps said the renovations took several months, but the hard work paid off with sweet success.

“We moved it on November 9th and over the fall, we worked on putting all the windows and doors in. Closing it up somewhat in the back to make it more safe for the winter. Then in the spring when we came back in February, we started finishing more remodeling,” Phelps said. “Our hope was to have it open by the 15th of June, but I’m happy with the 20th.”
