Grand Rapids woman faces criminal vehicular homicide charge for July crash

An update to a fatal crash from Itasca County from back in July. Cynthia A. Martin, of Grand Rapids, now faces criminal vehicular homicide.

This is related to the death of 19-year-old Carter Haithcock, of Goodland.

The state patrol had reported Haithcock had been walking on Highway 169 in Nashwauk back on July 3rd, when he was struck by Martin.

Another driver reported Haithcock laying in the road late that evening, around 11pm.

According to the criminal complaint, Martin called law enforcement around 6am on July 4th, reporting she may have been involved.

She told authorities she thought she struck an owl or turkey, did not stop, and continued home, per the report.

Martin has been summoned to appear in court on December 26th.

A spokesperson told our sister station KSTP that Martin is a volunteer chair with the 8th Congressional District for the DFL.
