On April 12, Superior’s Wessman Arena hosted an action-packed evening of Roller Derby.

The Harbor City Roller Derby team hosted it’s first home competition of the season, taking on Rochester’s Med City team. For some, this first home matchup was a way to get a feel for things, but overall, skaters say they were pleased they at how they performed in this return.

“Tonight we’re doing really good. We’re learning about a lot of us,” said Jen Kopischke, who skates for Harbor City, “Some of our skaters have only really been skating for a year and some of our vet skaters came back after taking a break from last year. So it’s really exciting. We’ve got a nice mix of skaters on the track.”

Harbor City plans to host a “skate-a-thon” fundraiser on May 17. A full schedule of events can be found on their website.
