Harbor Drive to close for one-year
Starting Monday, October 23 a portion of Harbor Drive will be temporarily closed. Officials with the City of Duluth say the closure is for seawall and Harbor Plaza reconstruction.
Crews note that pedestrians and cyclists will have a detour along existing path-ways and the Cross City Trail for the duration of the construction. This is expected to last 12 months.
The public will not be allowed to use this route, says the city in a press release. “Construction traffic and DECC deliveries will be able to access this area, but the public will be prohibited.”
Crews say the work will repair the deteriorating seawall to better accommodate maritime transportation and docking. They note a new public plaza with separated pedestrian and bike trails is set to come.
Officials say to use caution and stay clear of construction zones while the project progresses.
The repair work is supported by Minnesota State bonding and a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Authority.
