Hibbing city council meets about alternative property for HRA affordable housing development
Hibbing City Council met to discuss a different location for the HRA affordable workforce housing development Monday July 1st.
The meeting follows community backlash from the original proposal to build the housing development on Cobb Cook Park. The housing development was meant to replace the Green Haven apartments which have fallen into disrepair.
The new location is undeveloped, city-owned parcel in the 4000 block of 5th Avenue West. The HRA and the City of Hibbing have until July 12th to apply for state funding for the project
“We have listened to the Cobb Cook residents and we have listened to the HRA about partnering to make another property option viable for this affordable workforce housing project,” said Hibbing Mayor Pete Hyduke “In closing the city and the HRA want to provide the best possible housing for the over three hundred Hibbing residents living that are a part of the HRA community and I hope we can move this forward together. “
There will be another meeting Wednesday July 10th with a public comment period.
